Ride Skate Surf or Post

I have had a lot of trouble getting myself dedicated to post in the last week or so. It has gotten a little warmer where i live and there is a lot less rain. It makes me feel like riding BMX, scooter, skateboard, roller blade, waveboard and anything else i can find and not post here.

I guess this comes back to the post i wrote about getting kids outside. i would rather be outside if i can be. Yet my parents are thinking i would rather be inside on the computer and playing xbox games or even with my tech deck stuff.

I have to be with my site alike i am with everything physical I do outside – DEDICATED! I will make sure I post every 2-3 days so those kids out there wanting some info, goss, updates  and tips and hints can get them (also the adults that are new to all these things.)

I cant promise a lot on the surfing side of things as i am not near a beach, regardless i will post what i know!

REDfest RAMPFEST Competitions

Crowd Pic

I get so excited every year when we have scooter competitions. As a spectator; watching scooter riders at the likes of RedFest and RampFest is awesome! To compete has got to be better.

It seems the whole scooter, BMX and roller blade world heads out to these events to watch or compete. The action is cool, the riders and skaters are highly skilled and the crowd cheers. The competitions are not limited to just red fest and ramp fest. There are tons of competitions all over Australia that you can watch out for in your area.

It seems the competitions are partially sponsored by the brand Mad Gear. Mad gear pros go out and show everyone what they are made of and also representatives give out scooters, t-shirts and all other sorts of prizes. Mad Gear sell scooters and i really love their stuff!

You can look for the competitions that have been held in the past on youtube. The mentioned festivals (fests) are ones held in Australia but i am sure you can find one no matter what country you live in.

I have found the most information by searching in google the terms: Ramp Fest, My Ramp Fest and Ramp Fest Edit. Searching for Ramp Fest Edit will give you edited versions of mad tricks and stacks! For anyone who doesn’t understand my Aussie Slang, a stack is a crazy crash.

Looking forward to the next fest near me!

SkateBoarding Children Prodigies

Child Skateboarder

This is something I have always wished to be. Seems i am more skilled at sing a PC regardless of knowing my stuff. As explained on wikipedia this is a child prodigy:

A child prodigy is someone who, at an early age, masters one or more skills far beyond their level of maturity. One criterion for classifying prodigies is: a prodigy is a child, typically younger than 18 years old, who is performing at the level of a highly trained adult in a very demanding field of endeavour.

I have seen many clips of kids who skateboard, scooter ride, do BMX stunts and surf that are prodigies on places such as youtube. They are few and far between at the skate parks I have visited though.

I always wondered what makes a skateboard child prodigy? Is it starting at age 1 as soon as they can walk? Is it hanging with their dad and learning from him? Is it in those things called genes? I have none of these up my sleeve. I was never given a skateboard at age 1, I did not have a skating dad and I certainly dont have skateboarding in my genes. Does this mean its all up to me? I have to learn all this myself where others have an advantage?

I look at all the pro skaters and i wonder about these 3 things: dad, genes and age of being given a board ……. I wonder how many were poker prodigies. This may be something an adult could look at investigating.

Scooter 1 Piece Bars or Not?

one piece bars pic

Many of my friends are right into 1 piece bars on their scooters and I also am. When i think about the years that have gone that i have been scooter riding though I think about what could have happened to me as a littler boy having them. it makes me realize that sometimes 1 piece bars are not suitable for some scooter riders.

Think of a toddler, there is no need for them to have 1 piece bars, they dont get right into tricks and stunts (usually) like older kids. They also have multi piece bars which can protect them. Some handles bend when you crash, this is going to stop them copping a hard whack to the eye or worse a pierced stomach.

Its just a thought i had  – I think back to all the times i fell as a little kid and fell badly. By little I mean 4 and 5 – sure i am only 10 but in reality there is a lot of experience gained in 5 years. I am much further ahead with my scooter riding then the new little rider down the road from me that got his first scooter at xmas.

Parents, consider age before buying 1 piece bars or a scooter already including 1 piece bars. Kids, think about it also. Whats going to suit you best?

Win Tech Deck Competitions

Win Tech Deck

There are competitions I have found, now and again where you can win new tech deck boards, ramps and other tech deck stuff. I have found videos about them on youtube. They really are quite awesome!

You have to use the same table as your competitor and you both use the same skate park which is set up on the table. Sometimes, its just a ramp or even just a table. The competitions vary from freestyle to jumping. It is judged the same as in a normal skateboard competition.

The first person does their trick, the second person has to copy the trick and get it correctly done after 3 attempts or they lose. This goes on and on until their is a winner.

I am hoping that one day tech deck finger boarding competitions will become something a lot bugger. I am not quite sure who holds them at the moment. I am guessing whoever does, not everyone can make it.

I am going to try to organize a tech deck competition just like this in the next year for people who live near me. This isnt a bad idea for all you other kids out there too. For now, maybe this is a fab new game for you and your friends to play where you can get lots of practice.

Turn Junk To Home Skate Park

skate junk

My mum always says, another mans trash is another mans treasure. She sure is right about that when it comes to the trash my step dad attempts to throw out. I say attempts as I always claim a lot of the bigger items for my own, for my driveway skate park.

There are not many kids in the world that can afford to go out and simply buy jumps, ramps, grinding rails and things like that. I am one of them, although I do hope Santa Claus brings me a nice big ramp. Because I can’t afford such thing and my parents can’t I have learned to make ends meet.

I am always using things that are no longer needed for my skating, skateboarding, scooter riding and BMX stunt riding . Let me list some of the things I have used in my own drive way at home that my step dad was throwing out:

Old Palets

Angled foam

An old coffee table stand with old wooden doors

Steel piping

Bricks

Planks of wood of all sizes

As you collect things you can become more inventive. Keep in mind I have my step dad check things over to make sure they are secure. The biggest jump I have had so far was the one made from the old wooden coffee table with an old door. I added a second old door to the other side so I had an up and down ramp.

You need to make sure you keep safe. Skate parks are made to ensure the maximum safety for you. If at home though you can start off small using smaller things and still have the same ground to skate on and land on – concrete.

I hope I have helped you see that trash can be made into a little skating haven.

Free BMX Games Fun

BMX Games Pic

I found a site that has cool free BMX Games which I had a lot of fun on and thought I would share. They say “We have the best free BMX games online. Whether you like dirt bike games, stunt bmx games or downhill racing games, we have them all for you to enjoy. The best part about our free games is that if you don’t find the BMX games you are looking for, just ask us and we will add them for you.” I totally agree with this.

The games are very much suited to kids like me but my dad also had a lot of fun with them. I guess adults like kids things too sometimes. Games on the site include BMX Stunt Ride, BMX Boy, BMX Pro Style and BMX Stunt Park, BMX Back Flipper. There are many, many more games that they have and here is a list of some others:

BMX Pro Style

Sik Trix BMX

BMX Backflips

Stunt Game

Juniper Lee BMX

BMX Master

X Rider BMX

Any kids that have a computer and the internet that want to enjoy some free games can play here. Its called BMX Games 123.

Different Types Of Skate Parks

park with various uses

BMX riders as well as skateboarders use skate parks. They are also used by roller bladers, wave board riders, inline skaters and scooter-riders. Skateparks are be made of concrete and wood or metal it all depends what type they are.

Wooden parks are more suited to riders searching for gaps and aiming to air higher. Concrete parks usually tend to contain bowls and pools. However, it is not unusual for riders to make a park from both or use a park with both.

Concrete parks are usually built outdoors due to their ability to withstand years of exposure to the sun, wind and rain. Parks made from wood are popular for indoor use due to ease of construction, availability of materials and cost. They are much more safe when considering the difference associated with falling on wood instead of concrete. Parks designed with BMX use in mind will typically have steel bases.

My Uncles Surfing Life

Joe Adams Headed To Surf Surfing Life

I have always wondered about my uncle, my grandads brother, so my great uncle. He moved overseas many years ago and i have never met him. He is a surfer is what I have always been told. He lives where there are beautiful beaches and waves and a life style that suits him.

It reminds me of my mum who plays poker. I started to think I didnt want her to move to Las Vegas and stay there like my uncle did for surfing, just so she could play poker. I do not think she plans to. Las Vegas doesn’t have what Reunion Island does where my uncle lives. It has cheaper living mum said and also it has beautiful surrounds.

My mum has told me that my uncle helps out with big surfing competitions and mostly enjoys his life. She said he is smart enough to be a doctor but living a surfing life is something that would make him much happier then $200,000.00 every year.

I have looked at my uncles photos even though he isnt friends with me on facebook and he looks like a lot of fun. His surfing life looks a lot of fun too. One day i hope to choose a life like his, not surfing but something just like that – living a life I want to live, doing what i want to do!

Kids Want To Skate Ride and Surf

skatepark

There are a lot of kids In the world. I am one of them. It seems that adults think that all we want to do is sit inside and play computer games, xboxes and ds and play station. For me this is not true and i think other kids feel the same. Maybe not all kids but a lot of boys at least.

The problem we have as kids is a place to do it and getting all the things we need to do it. We need good skate boards, not junk from a cheap department store that is going to break. We need good scooters and good BMX bikes. We need things that ensure we can do our tricks without our parents yelling at us for breaking our stuff.

We also want to surf, we want to surf on surf boards and body boards, we want to ride in donuts, kite surf and wind surf.

Except for having the equipment we also need places to do this and in the world today this is hard. There are people out there that will kidnap us and steal our expensive ride on toys. There is also the danger of cars and breaking our arms and legs when we go under them.

Parents are wrong about kids “these days” kids want to get out and do things but dont have the means or ways to do it. Maybe its time parents stop whining about us sitting inside and start wondering about how they can get us outside. A surfboard and supervision or a skate board and a skate park supervision thanks mum and dad and i will be out of the house and happy.
